In 1973, representatives from the American Society for Clinical Pathologists and the American Society for Medical Technology signed incorporation papers creating a brand new independent organization explicitly dedicated to ensuring quality lab science education, the National Accrediting Agency for Laboratory Sciences.

Over the next year, the original NAACLS Board of Directors established core philosophies that remain today. During those early days, the Board President, Dr. Colin Macpherson, wrote a poem to commemorate the group’s work.

We worked hard together by day or by night

Forever debating just what was right.

Let us never forget what we have done

The good deeds cemented together with fun.

The board has transformed right into NAACLS

Which gives great joy to its last chairperson

More commonly known as Colin Macpherson!

This means we have one more date to remember

– Nineteen seventy-three, the eighth of December

NAACLS will spend 2023 celebrating fifty years of laboratory science accreditation. Over the next year, keep an eye on the NAACLS News for content related to significant moments and achievements of the organization, as well as opportunities for you to get involved in the festivities. NAACLS would not be here without its generous volunteers and committed programs.

We are not quite ready to unveil all our plans, so stay tuned to the NAACLS News and our LinkedIn page. We want everyone to join in on the fun.
